1. The name ‘A’ comes from ‘B’, a classic American novel about the 19th century whaling industry.

2. English teacher Jerry Baldwin, history teacher Zev Siegel, and writer Gordon Bowker were the original founding partners of ‘A’.

3. According to Valerie O'Neil, a spokeswoman, the logo of ‘A’ is an image of a ‘C’.

4. ‘D’ joined ‘A’ as director of retail operations and marketing in 1982. Before joining ‘A’, a sales representative for Hammerplast, a Swedish company supplying ‘A’.

5. After graduating with a bachelor’s degree in business in 1975, ‘D’ immediately began working in the sales and marketing division of ‘E’.

6. ‘D’ co-founded ‘F’, an investment group, in 1998 with Dan Levitan.

7. ‘D’ is also the former owner of an American professional basketball ‘G’.

8. ‘H’ is the brand name of A‘s retail music concept.

9. ‘I’, a brand of bottled water acquired by ‘A’ in 2005, is sold at locations throughout North America.

10. In 2006 the company created by ‘A’, produced a film ‘J’ written and directed by Doug Atchison.

1. Although ‘A’ was incorporated in the state of New York on June 16, 1911 as the ‘B’, its origins can be traced back to developments at the close of the 19th century. For example, the first dial recorder was invented by Dr. Alexander Dey in 1888, and Dey's business became one of the building blocks of ‘B’. Similarly, the Bundy Manufacturing Company was incorporated in 1889 as the first time recording company in the world, and it, too, later became a key component of ‘B’.

2. ‘C’ introduced the motto, 'D' which later became a widely known symbol of ‘A’.

3. Fortune magazine once called ‘E’ "the greatest capitalist who ever lived." ‘E’ was the chairman and chief executive officer of ‘A’ from 1956 - 71. ‘E’ remained a member of board of directors of ‘A’ until 1984, taking time out from 1979 to 1981 to serve as U.S. Ambassador to the Soviet Union.

5. ‘A’ has often been described as having a sales-centric or a sales-oriented business culture. The current CEO, ‘F’, for example, joined the company as a salesman and, unusual for CEOs of major corporations, has no MBA or postgraduate qualification.

6. ‘A’ has been nicknamed ‘G’ (for its official corporate color) and ‘H’ is their corporate anthem.

7. ‘I’ is largely credited with turning around fortunes of ‘A’. In his memoir, Who Says Elephants Can't Dance?, ‘I’ describes his arrival at the company in April 1993, when an active plan was in place to disaggregate the company.

8. In 2002, ‘A’ sold its hard disk operations was to ‘J’.

  1. Prior to 1998, ‘A’ traded under a single alphabet ticker (C) on the NYSE.

  2. In the 1930s, ‘A’ created a formal vehicle parts division under the brand name ‘B’ with the result that B remains a colloquial term for vehicles produced by ‘A’.

  3. ‘C’ is an American businessman associated with ‘A’. In May 1982, Ronald Reagan appointed ‘C’ to head the Statue of Liberty-Ellis Island Foundation, which was created to raise funds for the renovation and preservation of the Statue of Liberty. ‘C’ continues to serve on the board of the foundation.

  4. From 1998 to 2007, ‘A’ was part of ‘D’. ‘D’ is involved in a joint project with Archer Daniels Midland Company and Bayer CropScience to develop jatropha as a biofuel .

  5. ‘A’ is now part of an American private equity firm ‘E’.

  6. ‘A’ has collaborated with ‘F’ of India: F's ‘G’ will be sold through A's Global Electric Motorcars division.

  7. ‘A’ is famous for ‘H’ – architecture by William Van Alen.
